Is UMM an Ayurvedic brand? UMM is Ayurveda-inspired, and its roots reach further still: into the Vedas, the classical texts and the daily rituals of Abhyanga, Udvartana, Snāna and Marma.
Vedic Intelligence and Ayurveda: The Lineage Behind Elevated Bathing Rituals®
Ayurveda, आयुर्वेद, is the knowledge of life. It is one of the oldest systems of care the world has known, set down more than two thousand years ago in the great classical texts of India: the Charaka Saṃhitā and the Suśruta Saṃhitā. When people ask whether UMM is an Ayurvedic brand, the truest answer is this: UMM is Ayurveda-inspired, and its roots reach further still.
The lineage we call Vedic intelligence
Ayurveda grew from the Vedas, the body of knowledge that shaped how ancient India understood the body, the senses and the elements. Long before the classical physicians wrote their treatises, the Ṛgveda was already singing to water as a source of life: Āpo hi ṣṭhā mayobhuvaḥ, "O Waters, you are the source of all joy and life" (Ṛgveda 10.9).
We use the words Vedic intelligence for this whole lineage: the hymns, the classical sciences of Ayurveda, the knowledge of Marma, the role of sound and intention, and the daily rituals that carried all of it from one generation to the next. It is the intelligence my grandmother practiced every Sunday morning without ever naming it.
Dinacharya: the ritual of the day
The Charaka Saṃhitā devotes a chapter of its opening book, the Sūtrasthāna, to Dinacharya, दिनचर्या, the daily regimen. Oil comes before water. The body is anointed and massaged, and only then bathed. The text describes the warm-oil massage (Sūtrasthāna 5.88) and the bath that follows it (Sūtrasthāna 5.94) as practices that bring softness, strength and calm.
Elevated Bathing Rituals® follow that same sequence, translated for modern life.
Four classical practices, one ritual
Abhyanga, अभ्यङ्ग. The warm-oil massage before bathing. The Golden Ritual Oil carries 24K gold, saffron and ashwagandha into this first gesture of the day.
Udvartana, उद्वर्तन. The botanical polish, pressed over the skin to refine and awaken it. The Golden Dust Ritual and Luminous Glow Body Scrub are drawn from it.
Snāna, स्नान. The sacred bath. The Sacred Shower Gel and The Bar cleanse with botanicals that honor the skin's balance.
Marma, मर्म. The science of vital points, mapped in the Suśruta Saṃhitā (Śārīrasthāna 6). The UMM Signature Marma Massager and the Kansa Wand bring that knowledge to the hands. UMM Marma education is NCBTMB-approved continuing education.
Age-defying care, rooted in the classical botanicals
Many of the botanicals in our formulations are named in the classical texts. Bakuchi, बाकुची, treasured for skin renewal, is now studied as a natural alternative to retinol for visibly smoother, firmer-looking skin. Amla and saffron bring antioxidant richness and an even, luminous tone. In The Royal Radiance Elixir and Timeless Glow Body Crème, they meet 24K gold and modern skin science for skin that looks and feels restored over time.
Why we say "inspired"
Ayurveda is a complete science of health, practiced by trained physicians. UMM honors it as the source of our rituals and formulations, and we create body care for the daily ritual. Our formulation team brings together an Ayurvedic doctor, a holistic dermatologist, a senior medicinal plant taxonomist and a scientist, so every product carries both the classical knowledge and the rigor of modern formulation.
That is what we mean by Vedic intelligence: the oldest knowledge of the body, carried into the present with care.
The bath was always about returning.
