How To Build A Body Care Ritual

While most of us are great at keeping up with our facial skincare, the skin on the rest of our body is often ignored. Taking care of yourself is important and body care is a crucial part of selfcare. How, then, can you ensure that you are taking care of the skin on your body just as well as the skin on your face?

Start with an Abhyanga massage

A pre-shower Abhyanga massage is great to ease your way into a regular body care ritual - make sure you are using a good quality oil to get the most benefits from the practice though! If you are not sure where to start, here are a few tips for you:

- Warm the oil; it should feel comfortably warm on the skin - neither too hot nor too cold.

- Take off all your clothes.

- Sit or stand on an old towel in a closed room that is free from draughts. Make sure that the air conditioner is switched off as well.

- Massage the oil all over your body generously using smooth, firm movements; make sure you massage each area for at least 5 minutes each!

- A general rule that is followed by Abhyanga practitioners is to use long up-down motions on the limbs and slow, circular motions in a clockwise direction on the joints.

Benefits:

An Abhyanga massage energizes, nourishes, strengthens and warms the body from the inside out. It also reduces insomnia and allows for better sleep quality. A regular Abhyanga massage also improves digestion and enables better mental health. Most importantly, it has wonderful benefits on the skin and hair; you can see the benefits of the massage on your skin health almost immediately.

Follow up with a body scrub

If you find your skin becoming dry, dull and flakey during winter, we highly recommend using an oil based sugar scrub that gently and effectively exfoliates the skin without drying it. A sugar scrub is also better suited for sensitive skin since the granules are smaller in size, so it is perfect for all skin types. Make sure you are applying the scrub in an upwards direction to prevent ingrown hair.

Finish with the Body Créme

While the Body Scrub also moisturises the skin because of its oil content, the Body Créme is a great treatment during winters when skin gets drier than usual or if you have dry skin. The Body Créme is enriched with ultra moisturising skin-loving ingredients such as goat’s milk, aloe vera and avocado and neem oils that make for the perfect way to wrap up the ritual without leaving skin too greasy.

While using the right products is important for optimum skin health, ensuring that you are eating right, staying hydrated, working out and getting at least eight hours of sleep is equally important to help you achieve holistic well-being (great skin included!)
